After coming out of a particularly rocky few years and for the first time in my life, being in a mental place that I’m actually content with myself. To maintain this “happy place”, to protect it from any low flying attacks and to push myself further I’m spending a lot of time exploring personal development theories at the moment. The general eating a lot healthier and exercising being key to my new routines staving off the demons. Also I’ve been focusing on making the time to do the things I enjoy, the things that keep me happy. So, I’ve got back into cooking and baking, planning meals, reading recipes and magazines for inspiration and almost seeing it as a form of (tasty) meditation.
A couple of weeks ago, I saw renowned, local Hypnotherapist Phil Steele was hosting a few workshop called the Unstoppable you. Looking at the line up for what was being discussed, I couldn’t think of anything better to help me propel my mentality and personal development to the next level. Here is what was talked about:
- Soul v Ego
- Law of Attraction:
1.The most important word you’ll ever need…
2. Mantras: what and why
3. Vision: seeing is believing
- Zero F*cks Given
1. There is no competition
2. Break down walls
3. The song in your head
1. What it is
2. How it works
3. Demonstration for anyone who wants to take part
Phil will break all of the stereotypes and preconceptions you have of someone who is a self professed “Psychology Master” and Hypnotist. Suited and booted, with a warming scouse cheeky chappy charm, you can’t help but be drawn to him and hang off his every word. The entire 2 hours were so insightful, engaging and I learnt more in that short time about what I need to do to get my life to where I want it, than I have done in years.
Each topic was explained in plain accessible English. No jargon, no scary techniques, no preaching. Everything was very open, honest and Phil drew on a lot of his own experiences, divulging a lot of anecdotes. One of my favourite being when discussing the art of Zero F*cks Given, when Phil was walking down a busy dual carriageway, earphones in, tunes on loud. Instead of just humming along to himself, he thought to not give a f*ck and sing loud and proud for all to hear. Yes, he probably looked like a mentalist but it made his experience even more enjoyable and brought a smile (and a giggle) to everyone he passed. The people then, would have been uplifted moving on with their day, maybe even sharing the sight of Phil having the time of his life to others and passing on that joy. Just imagine how powerful it would be if more people thought like this…give zero f*cks about what anyone else thinks, let go and do what makes you happy. After all, life’s too short to not be happy and make the most of it!
The Law of Attraction is something I have heard about before, and to be honest I had a preconception of being some wishy-washy bullshit. But when explained by Phil, with examples of how basic changes in attitude towards what you want to achieve with your life, it all made perfect sense. A boat pitches its sails in the direction it wants to go, and so we must do the same. If we pitch ourselves into a positive place, we’ll be led to more positivity; if we pitch ourselves to a negative place we’ll be led to storms and rocky shores.
“We become what we think about most of the time, and that’s the strangest secret. ~Earl Nightingale”
Even just small incremental changes on a day to day basis can bring about huge changes in your life. Something I’m being a lot more mindful of. Instead of rocking my current plain sailing by big upheaval and disruption for new routines, I’m going to adopt small little changes every day which will be easier to stick to and will all have a massive cumulative effect. Basically the Law of Attraction is all about gratitude and synchronicity. Gratitude for what you have in life and synchronicity are people, places or events that your soul attracts into your life to help you evolve to higher consciousness or to place emphasis on something going on in your life. Basically….what you think about, you bring about; so it’s important to manifest over the correct things in life.
The final topic covered is something I have actually never heard of before and I honestly think is going to be one of the most useful tools I’ll ever learn. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a tool to banish negative thoughts that are consuming your mind and to rid you of anxiety. It re-wires you brain in how it perceives an issues or concerns you have in your life. It does this in such a way that they no longer are perceived as issues by your brain and allow you to tackle these things, head on without any sort of brain fog worrying you or draining you. The technique itself involves tapping on pressure points around the face, chest and hands whilst repeating positive deflection phrases. A room full of people all doing this together, to an outsider would look like we’d just been brainwashed or joined a cult, but the idea is to do it on your own as and when needed. Since attending the workshop just over a week ago, I’ve used it to deflect negativity, anxiety and stress felt about current personal issues and it really has helped dissolve those feelings of dread completely. I would encourage anyone to read up about this technique and put it into practise – it’s life-changing.
The workshop finished with the opportunity to purchase some specialist candles and there were a few recommended books for further reading by: Victor Frankl, Earl Nightingale and Thomas Berg.
Phil is incredible in his teachings. The only downside to this workshop is that it wasn’t longer. I’ll certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for future events that he hosts and I am highly considering seeing him for a one-to-one session. I highly highly recommend him and encourage anyone wanting to push themselves and strive for a better ‘you’ to visit his website or the man in person.
A wonderful afternoon – Thank You Phil!
